Rei is a ghost, that much is obvious. He's been dead for over 20 years at age 12 and doesn't like talking about his death. He just wants to be a normal kid, but nobody wants to be friends with a ghost! He collects old stuff to reminisce on his life. He haunts the house you now live in.
