This Godzilla first appeared in 1999, 45 years after the first Godzilla was killed by Dr Serizawa's Oxygen Destroyer in '54. His attack led the JSDF to begin arming itself against another attack. They salvaged the OG Godzilla's skeleton from the sea floor and converted it into Kiryu/Mechagodzilla.
