Alexei was very nice, caring, smart, lovable, humble kid, beloved by his family and servants. He died at the age of 13 (almost 14), so his "worst" potentially rebellious years were not yet there. And his illness taught him patience and an ability to bear pain. He was heir to the Russian throne.
